SERVICES OF THE COLDSTREAM GUARDS, IN TWO VOLUMES.
London: Richard Bentley, 1833. First printing, Full cloth, Octavos, xxviii,
448 + xx, 552 pages, Black & white plates. Very Good.
      Scarce British Army regimental history which traces the record of the
Coldstream Guards from the formation of the regiment in 1650 under General
Monck by Cromwell's request, through the Napoleonic Wars and concluding with
the Battle of Waterloo. Two chapters devoted to coverage of the American
Revolutionary War. Much of volume II is taken up by the Napoleonic Wars.
Illustrated throughout both volumes with 17 medallic plates, one plan and
one view. Several plates are foxed. Preliminary and postliminary leaves show
some minor foxing as well, but the text is generally bright and clean. There
are several soldier and officer rosters within the text. Bound in maroon
cloth over boards with gilt stamped spines. Both volumes have had the
endpapers replaced at some long ago date, and both bindings are quite strong
and without hinge cracks. Front free endpaper in volume I is adhered to the
preliminary blank leaf. Spines and joints are faded, minor bumps to corners,
and a few scattered external stains. Bindings strong. A solid and handsome
