1. JUDGE BALL'S (PHILLIP) SCRAPBOOK, BROADSIDE AND ARCHERY THEATER

Several newspaper articles cut and pasted down to the pages of this
book, most referring to theater, entertainment, "Academy of Music,
Northampton, MA" , "Lawler Theatre", "Boston Opera House, 1919
presenting Al Jolson", "Hollis St. Theatre" early 1900's.
Interesting array of Poetry, song, laid in programs, reviews, dance
steps, etc. $75.00

2. ORIGINAL MAUDE ADAMS PHOTOGRAPH. ca. 1905. This photograph
measures 8 1/2 x 13". It was taken at the studio of Fowler of
Evanston, Illinois. According to the notes on the verso, it was taken
about the time Adams was starring in the new play, Peter Pan. The
author, James M. Barrie is said to have written the story with Maude
Adams in mind, to play the lead. The ethereal beauty of the actress
is well demonstrated in this photograph. It is a very large
(unusually so) graytone cabinet card, mounted on gray card stock. The
condition is very good and the image sharp. The only faults are
slight wear to the corners. $130.00

3. O'KEEFE, JOHN (1747-1833). RECOLLECTIONS OF THE LIFE OF JOHN
O'KEEFFE; WRITTEN BY HIMSELF. Philadelphia: Carey and Lea, 1827.
First American edition. 2 volumes. Original full calf with red
leather label. [216, 234 pgs] Near fine. Ancient library inscription.
2 volumes in one. Minor foxing, limited to edges. First an artist,
studying under Robert West, O'Keeffe became an actor at Smock Alley
Theatre. He also wrote 68 plays. His best play, Wild Oats had a long
run in both London and at The Abbey in Dublin. $230.00

4. SHAKESPEARE (SHAKSPEARE), WILLIAM. THE PLAYS OF WILLIAM
SHAKESPEARE IN FIFTEEN VOLUMES. WITH THE CORRECTIONS AND
ILLUSTRATIONS OF VARIOUS COMMENTATORS. TO WHICH ARE ADDED, NOTES BY
SAMUEL JOHNSON AND GEORGE STEEVENS. London: T. Longman et al, 1793.
Illustrated by facsimiles of Shakespeare's writing, a plate showing
his home and a large fold-out plate showing the 12 Morris-dancers (9"
x 17"). 146 plates, 17 woodcuts, 4 tables. Fourth edition. 15
volumes. Tree calf with gilt rules and dentelles with gilt design
bands, embossed compartmental designs; two burgundy title labels with
gilt lettering. 8vo. Near fine. Complete. The first fourteen volumes
are in wonderful condition and very handsome. They have a previous
owner's (Bowes) eighteenth century armorial bookplate at each front
paste-down. Volume VII has a small bit of bookworm damage at rear
interior board, does not affect contents or exterior of board.
Overall this set is stunning, clean with negligible foxing and the
bindings are sound with only minor wear to the leather extremities.
Volume XV, does not match the first fourteen volumes. It is
contemporary mottled calf with raised bands and compartmental designs
at the spine and a black leather title label; the boards are
detached, but present, the spine leather is dry and discolored. The
contents of this volume are complete, clean and sound. Considered the
best edition. Jaggard 506.
