1.	ALLESTREE, RICHARD:  THE  GOVERNMENT OF THE TONGUE / By the author of 
The whole duty of man, &c. Edition: The fourth impression. Oxford, 1675. 
224p (8vo)  Attributed to Richard Allestree by Halkett & Laing; also has 
been variously attributed to Lady Dorothy Pakington, Richard Sterne, John 
Fell, Humphrey Henchman, and others. cf. DNB. A classic English text on the 
conduct of life  including a study of slander. With a preliminary 
imprimature leaf and an allegorical Illustration. Copac [ 6 Locs., 1 in the 
USA]; OCLC 1 Loc. [UNC], but it is also at both Harvard and Yale.  Wing 
A1136;  Madan 3047. Original calf, ruled straight line, spine with 5 raised 
bands, some gilt Dec. remaining, gilt red Mro. Label. Restorations at top 
and foot of spine. The calf has been shellacked, OW VG. $475.00

2.	FOX, JOHN: THE WANDERER : WITH ALL THE MOTTO'S IN LATIN AND ENGLISH. TO 
WHICH IS ADDED The Publick spirit, an heroick poem / By Mr. Fox.   London : 
Printed by H. Meere, 1718 [8], 183; [8], 37; [4], 24 p ; 29 cm (8vo). 
Originally published as a periodical in 26 parts between 9 February, 1717, 
and 1 August, 1717. The intention to republish in this book form is 
announced in the final part as is the proposed addition of 'Motto's of The 
Wanderers' and 'The publick spirit; a poem': both these additions, which 
may also have been published separately, have their own title-pages and 
pagination but register is continuous. 'The Motto's' being attributed to 
'The author of the Wanderer' whereas 'The publick spirit' is anonymous Two 
papers were written by Daniel Hanchet. Many essays on issues of life, men 
and women, great and small; some in the form or allegory or tale. Unlocated 
in OCLC, 3 copies in COPAC at Leeds, Nat.Lib. of Scotland and Cambridge. 
There is 1 Loc. of the original periodical version at the BL., only.  ESTC, 
N26152. Original calf, spine divided by raised bands into 6 boxes, some of 
the gilt still remains. One box is a red Mro. Title slip, gilt. A little 
worming to the outer margins of the first few pages, affecting no text. 
Light tanning, especially in the margins, worse in the rear, OW VG. $750.00
