Greetings. Available today from Coelacanth Books:

#00140. THE ANGLICAN MYSTERIES OF PARIS, subtitled "the Stirring Adventures of Captain Mars and
His Two Friends Messieurs Scribbley and Daubiton." J.B. Payne and John Moyr (illustrator). A book of humorous illustrations, in the style of Randolph Caldecott, that brilliantly displays the ebullience and frivolity of what would be the final year of the Second Empire.

Published by E. Moxon, London, 1870. First edition. Dedicated to the Prince Imperial. 53 pages of hand-drawn, zincographic "cartoons" on tinted backgrounds with "handwritten" text. Illustrations printed on rectos only.

This copy in a dark green buckram library binding, circa 1910, covers a bit lightened, nicely sewn with new eps. Small name and number in white on spine, small library bookplate on pastedown and stamp on dedication page. Minor repair to page 31. Pages clean and bright. Very scarce. A nice example of late 19th century illustration...$95
