SNOOK, J. [JOHN] J. : THE CENTENNIAL TRIP IN RHYME. NP, ND [Clarion Job
Print, Lapeer, Mich]; 85 [5] Pp.4.5 x 10.3 cm. The Preface is dated Dec.
1st 1877; with the probable publications date either that month or the
next. The poem is a happy ballad-like creation describing the trip and more
precisely the character of the Centennial exhibition at Philadelphia, and
the experience of seeing it. The verse is workaday, but fluent and
charming. The author's First Book. Snook is known by another publication:
"New poems and glad outings ... by John J. Snook," Rochester, Mich., The
author. This collection of his work was published in 1907, and can be found
at OCLC at 10 Locs. Our title is not found at OCLC, nor is it in any
Michigan library, nor in CIC, HLS, HRH, Brown, Yale, Melvyl, NYP or LC.
Apparently the only copy known. This copy is in its original red cloth,
gilt title and decoration on the front board. Portions of the cloth have
darkened, OW a Very Good copy. $400.00
