MENCKEN, H. L. TREATISE ON THE GODS. New York: Alfred A. Knopf 1930. 
First Edition. Full blue vellum with gilt lettering and decorations on 
the spine. Copy #45 of 375 printed on Borzoi rag paper and SIGNED by 
the author. The text is largely unopened; the vellum retains its 
original deep, dark blue color. The plain paper dustwrapper with title 
and author printed on the spine is mostly present with minor chipping 
to top front edge, a short tear to the spine with resulting loss of 
part of the title, and a large chip and accompanying snag at the 
bottom of the rear panel. The slipcase has mild sunning to the outer 
edges and backstrip but is completely intact. Mencken may have 
appreciated the pricing history of this particular book which we have 
left intact for the next owner. It begins with a price of 15.00 in 
pencil with several lower prices all crossed out until the final price 
of 2.50. Fine in Very Good duswrapper and Near Fine slipcase.  $850
