One of the edition of 100 copies on Large Paper SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, this
copy numbered 13.

[xvi],213,[1]pp small 4to half dark brown crushed morocco, pale green
boards, marbled endpapers; top edge trimmed and gilt, others untrimmed; the
original linen covers and spine with Charles Shannon decorations bound in
at end. Bookplate and pencilled signature of the New Zealand collector Pat
Lawlor who has tipped in on endpaper a cutting from a 1927 Maggs catalogue
offering a copy at 16 guineas.

Loosely enclosed is a programme for an early performance of the play, March
16th 1895 at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket, where it had opened in January,
a 4 page oblong folder on fawn paper printed in brown, the cover decorated
in gold. The programme is partly torn down spine and a little chipped at
corners and edges. The book has light browning on first and last few
leaves, offsetting to edges of endpapers from overlapping leather on
covers, some wear to leather corners and head of spine, scuffed down upper
joint which is a little worn at foot.
