Pickvance, Ronald. VAN GOGH IN SAINT-REMY AND AUVRES. New York;
Metropolitan Museum of Art / Harry N. Abrams: 1986. The catalog to a
highly-acclaimed exhibition, companion to the exhibition of Van Gogh's
work at Arles. In 1889 and 1890, Van Gogh spent the last year and two
months of his life at a private asylum in Saint-Remy-de-Provence, and then
under the care of Dr. Gachet in Auvres-sur-Oise. During this period he
painted many of his most famous canvases, and during his last months, at
Auvres, his art seemed to undergo a final simplification and increase in
intensity. This catalog weaves brilliantly colored reproductions of his
vibrant paintings with period photographs, letters, drawings and a
scholarly text to present these ultimate months in the life of the great
artist. Hardcover. 9"x11.5", 325 pages, packed with color and b/w
illustrations, dj; small gift inscription on endpaper, else a near fine
copy. [03765] $50.00
