Shocked, I am SHOCKED to find potting going on in this establishment...

Binns, R.W. CATALOGUE OF A COLLECTION OF WORCESTER PORCELAIN, and Notes on
Japanese Specimens, in the Museum at the Royal Porcelain Works. Worcester
Royal Porcelain Co. Ltd.: 1884. The second edition of this catalog, first
issued in 1882, with 5 additional pages describing Japanese ceramics which
were not in the first edition. The profusion of engraved illustrations are
of very fine quality and detail. "The museum, entirely composed of
specimens of Worcester porcelain, contains also some of the old moulds and
models, and other relics of the early manufacture. Its formation was
chiefly due to the untiring care of R.W. Binns. It comprises 1900 nos., and
the catalogue, of great importance for the study of the ware, is
illustrated with reproductions grouped together chronologically." (Solon).

Hardcover. 6"x9", 190 pages, numerous engraved illustrations. Bound into
modern boards with a cloth spine, lettering rubbed off of the spine; boards
and spine with some wear and soil; a utilitarian binding and nothing more;
endpapers soiled and chipped, stamp on endpaper, minor internal soil, a few
small page chips, etc. [04713] $150.00

Rackham, Bernard & Herbert Read. ENGLISH POTTERY: ITS DEVELOPMENT FROM
EARLY TIMES TO THE END OF THE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY. London; Ernest Benn,
Ltd.: 1924.

A very well illustrated study covering the development of pottery in
England from Medieval times to its "Golden Age" in the 18th century. The
two noted authorities discuss potting in the Middle Ages and Tudor periods,
the introduction of foreign influences from Maoilica and Delft and foreign
stonewares, the rise of the Staffordshire potteries as well as the minor
potteries, the influences exerted in pottery design by porcelains, and
finally the dawn of the neoclassical age. Rackham and Read were both noted
authors and scholars, and approach their subject matter with erudition and
an analytical eye. The illustrations are a major strength of this book, and
include outstanding and unusual specimens from a number of noted
collections including those of Glaisher, Lomax, and Falkner, the Guildhall,
London, Victoria & Albert, Ashmoleum and British Museums, and a number of
other sources.

Hardcover. 9"x11.5", 143 pages, plus 12 color and 103 b/w plates, dj. A
fine, clean and superb copy in the rarely-seen dust jacket; the jacket has
had the top third of the spine panel cut out, and has general wear, some
soil, a few tears, etc. In addition, it is not all that pictorially
interesting, but merely seeing it on this volume is unusual, so we've added
a few dollars to the price. Hey, might as well be upfront about it...
[05370] $200.00
