Rather, Lois. Oakland's Image: A History of Oakland, California. Oakland: The Rather Press, 1972. 8vo. 163 pages. Illustrated. Quarter bound with acorn patterned paper boards. Pictorial green endpapers printed by Dan Solo. Near fine. Tiny stain on top edge of back cover. Faint pen mark also on back cover. Includes a T.L.S. from Lois Rather to a friend, discussing the book and commenting on the fact that Clif [Rather] "licked the gold-leaf title bit, with a haywire arrangement. But we think it adds to the book." This was the first Rather Press book with gold spine stamping (on a raised piece of cloth glued onto the spine). Limited to 115 copies. "Particular emphasis on Oakland's often unfavorable reputation over the years." Index and footnotes. $225 postpaid.
