For sale:

Kidner, Michael. The Elastic Membrane. Guildford, Surrey: Circle Press, 1979. A wooden box (17 ½ inches by 13 ¾ inches) filled with assorted printed goodies: A title page, hand set in 14 and 24 pt. Plantin and printed on BFK Velin Cuve Rives 250 gsm; three signed photo etchings (“Nine Stretches,” “Cut Fabric,” and “Coathanger”) and three signed lithographs (“Z Stretch,” “Booby Trap,” and “Relief”), all in stiff paper folders; a “practical,” “an example of a home-made computer used to generate the images;” and two spiral-bound books, facsimiles of the artist’s working books, entitled “Notebook” and “Continuity Book,” each signed. All inserted into various slots in the box which is wrapped in a 3mm Perspex folded cover. Limited to 345 copies (300 thus), numbered and signed by the artist. Title page has a small fold on a bottom corner, otherwise all of the paper material is fine. The box has several scratches along one edge and the central internal board is bowed. There are two loose
plastic pieces inside the box; I can’t figure out how they are supposed to fit. There is a scratch in the paint on the Perspex cover which serves as the spine title. Overall Near Fine. $500.00 postpaid.

Kirkup, James and Birgit Skiöld. The Tao of Water. Poem by Kirkup with prints by Skiöld. Guildford, Surrey: Circle Press, 1979. 10 loose signatures inserted into a silk-covered solander box (10 inches high by 9.5 inches wide). 32 pages. Lithographs and etchings designed and hand-printed by Skiöld. Includes a signed/numbered lithograph. Text set in 18 pt. Optima and printed by Ron King on 250 gsm. Velin Arches Blanc. One of 235 copies (200 thus), numbered and signed by author and artist. Near Fine. Some faint and small stains under title on front of box. Tissue guard over signed lithograph has some folds. Otherwise fine. ‘The Tao of Water’ was first published as part of ‘Zen Contemplations’ by Kirkup in 1978 (Kyoto Editions, Japan). A Zen-like meditation on the nature of water, accompanied by Skiöld’s spare illustrations. $700.00 postpaid.

Unpaginated. The text has been hand set in 14 and 18 pt. Optima and printed letterpress on 300 gsm. Somerset mould made paper. One of 355 copies (300 thus) numbered and signed by author and artist. Fine. $400.00 postpaid.
