Greetings All,
For your consideration:
~
(No. 7427 ) [Ulmann, Doris] Remembrance by John Jacob Niles, Preface by
Jonathan Williams. THE APPALACHIAN PHOTOGRAPHS OF DORIS ULMANN.
Penland, NC: Jargon Society, 1971. First printing, Full cloth, Quarto, [35],
63 plates, [5] pages, Black & White photographs. Good in a very good,
price-clipped dust jacket, Jacket in Mylar protector.
Striking collection of portraits taken by Ulmann in the 1920s and
1930s in the Southern Appalachians. Her images compare favorably with those
by subsequent Farm Security Administration photographers like Walker Evans,
Roy Stryker, et al. Bound in brown cloth over boards with dark blue spine
and upper board titles, decorated endpapers. Lower fore corners bumped,
strip of fading to cloth at bottom edges of boards. Prior owner name penned
at top edge of half title, name label on front pastedown. Jacket has minor
edge rubs and a bit of overall light soil to rear panel. $50.00
