A very scarce book. Roscoe, the English author who wrote “The Life of Lorenzo 
de’ Medici,” etc., was an advocate of milder punishments as efficacious in 
reforming the criminal. The second part of this work (Appendix of 144pp.) and 
p. 83-110 of the first part, all relate to the penal system in America.
