about 2000 engravings, many brilliantly hand colored full page plates. Each 
has a frontispiece, two volumes in color, title pages all have color 
illustrations. Volume I: Mammalia; Four Handed Animals; Wing Handed; Insect 
eating; Rodents, or gnawing; Flesh eating. 376pp. Volume II: Flesh eating
 (cont.); Thick Skinned; Ruminating; Toothless; Pouch-Bearing; Aquatic 
Mammals or Cetacea, 376 pp;  Volume III: Birds: Rapacious; Perching; 
Climbing; Gallinaceous; Wading; Swimming. Volume IV: Reptiles, Fishes, 
Insects, Worms, Crustaceans, Molluscs, Sea-Stars, Echinoderms, Corallines, 
Coral, and Animalcules. 346 pp Scientific table to rear. All edges are gilt, 
text and illustrations clean and clear. Beautiful detailed engravings, the 
hand colored plates are vibrant. Bound in three quarter morocco, bright gilt 
title and Roman Numerals to spine, gilt line decoration to spine and 
bordering leather. Hinges and corners rubbed, 1 inch chip to spine end vol. 
I; lower two inch hinge to Vol. III starting; Vol. IV, chip to hinge of 
lower spine edge, with repaired chip to end. Leather is dry, all very
solidly bound. Cloth maroon, moderate scuffs. Decorated end papers, stain 
from leather to very edge of few areas of f.e.p. A very presentable set. sm
