soldier's life on p. [13], otherwise very good.  New Usiana V92 (c): 
"Experiences of an officer's wife at frontier posts in Texas."  Davis, 
"Personal Writings by American Women, 4579: "Author's husband was a 
lieutenant in the First U. S. Infantry, stationed on the Texas 
frontier."  Egbert Viele was later a General in the Civil War.  With the 
pencilled signature at the top of the title page: "Gov. Rodman M. Price, 
Trenton New Jersey." (In 1846 Price was the first American to exercise a 
judicial function in California, represented California in Congress, later 
originated the public school system in N. Jersey, & was Governor of 
N.J.  He was a Copperhead during the Civil War.)  $125.00
