SHELDON, J. P. /*DAIRY FARMING: Being the Theory, Practice, and Method
of Dairying*./ Sumptuously bound in 3/4 grained calf over marbled
boards. Cassell & Company, London. ND (c. 1883). 1st edition. Large 4to,
pp. xxii, 570.

Sheldon was a late 19th century authority on animal husbandry and
farming, and the author of two other authoritative texts: /Livestock in
Health and Disease/, and /The Farm and the Dairy/, the latter of which
was first published in 1889 and, by 1908, had run through four editions.
There is no date of publication for the title offered, but reference to
the Introduction makes clear it was published just after the release of
the 1882 annual agricultural statistics for Great Britain. Nine of the
37 chapters are on various aspects of dairy farming in America,
including aspects of dairy factories and cheese-making. There is also a
chapter on Canadian dairy farming. Each of the 25 full page
chromolithographed (colour) plates are present, as called for in the
Table of Illustrations. Included is a large folding, coloured, map of
"Dairy Farming in America", and many b&w illustrations in the text. This
is a large, heavy, book. The bottom edges of the boards are (not
unexpectedly) a bit rubbed, and the boards are sunned on the spine,
across the top, and on the quarter leather corners. The endpapers are
clean, and the hinges and joints are tight. The contents and plates are
immaculate. Overall, in very good to just less than near fine condition.

Price: $285.00.

Terms of Sale - The price is net in US funds. Payment by check, or

sent anywhere in North America; overseas $25. Returnable within seven
