1942. First Edition. Folio (9" x 12-1/8") bound in original pictorial
red boards with a black cloth spine. Copy #125 of 349 numbered copies
of this special edition, with proceeds going to the Joint
Anti-Fascist Refugee Committee. Foreword by Dorothy Parker.
Illustrations by Rockwell Kent, Fritz Eichenberg, Don Freeman, Donald
Gelb, William Gropper, Benjamin Kopman, Hans Mueller, Luis
Quintanilla, Philip Reisman, William Sharp, and Lawrence Beall Smith.
This is actor Vincent Price's copy SIGNED and INSCRIBED to him by
several of the contributors in ink and pencil including Hellman,
Gropper, Gelb, Smith, Herman Shumlin (who produced this play and
others by Hellman on Broadway), and Parker ("with gratitude--and
complete--"). The Joint Anti-Fascist Refugee Committee was an
organization dedicated to aiding Spanish refugees and lobbying the
U.S. leadership on behalf of the deposed Republican government.
