1.  DRAWINGS BY THE OLD MASTERS FORMED BY C. FAIRFAX MURRAY 
(1849-1919).  1904. Illustrated by 291 full page collotype 
illustrations, in b&w and sepia tone on fine vellum-like paper. 3/4 
brown morocco with green cloth-covered boards, bordered by gilt 
rules, five raised bands with gilt compartment designs and lettering 
by Leighton. Folio. [291 pgs] Fine. This collection of reproductions 
of his drawing collection is not a published book. C. Fairfax Murray, 
artist, collector, assistant to D. G. Rossetti, Burne-Jones, and 
William Morris has been called "the unknown Pre-Raphaelite". The 
prints were identified as to artist and numbered in pencil and then 
sent to the binder, Leighton of London.  The inscription on the first 
free end paper states "Edward W. Forbes; Collection of drawings, 
which formerly belonged to C. Fairfax Murray of London". Edward W. 
(Waldo). Forbes, grandson of Ralph Waldo Emerson, was the first 
director of the Fogg Art Museum of Harvard University and himself a 
great collector of art. Top edge gilt, other edges un-trimmed. 
Leather worn at edges, with some scratches, spine leather has minimal 
wear, hinge leather worn.  Contents pristine<BR> <A

2.  BARTLETT, W[ILLIAM]. H[ENRY].  SCENERY AND ANTIQUITIES OF 
IRELAND, THE. London: Virtue, (1841). Illustrated by map and 121 
engravings by Bartlett. First edition. 3/4 dark green crushed morocco 
over marbled paper-covered boards with raised bands and gilt rules, 
all edges marbled. Near fine. Twentieth century binding. 2 " diameter 
damp stain to top of 2 pages (frontis and title). Another smaller 
damp stain to one margin. Extra clean and almost totally free of 
foxing. 2 volumes bound together. Two engraved title pages. A

3.  DARWIN, CHARLES.  JOURNAL OF A VOYAGE IN HMS BEAGLE, THE. 
Guildford, Surrey: Genesis Pub, 1979. Illustrated by 4 plates. This 
is #47 of 50 copies which were specially bound before the regular 
edition of 450. 3/4 green morocco over cloth boards with raised bands 
and gilt decorations in the spine compartments, gilt rules and all 
edges gilt. Front board has decorative inlay of red leather and gilt. 
Housed in a green cloth-covered slipcase , by Zaehnsdorf. Signed by 
G. P. Darwin, great-grandson of Charles. thick 4to. Fine/none/Fine.

4.  GOLDSMITH, OLIVER.  WORKS OF OLIVER GOLDSMITH. London: John 
Murray, 1854. Edited by Peter Cunningham. Illustrated by engraved 
extra title pages and frontispiece of Goldsmiths Monument in Volume 
IV. 4 volumes. Full dark green straight-grained  morocco gilt, with 
gilt single-rule border, spines decorated with florets and lettered 
in gilt in compartments, gilt board edges and inner dentelles, top 
edge gilt, marbled endpapers by Tout. Large 8vo. Near fine. Gift 
inscription erased but barely visible on free endpaper. Minor 
scuffing and previous owner's bookplate to pastedown. A very handsome

6.  MALORY, THOMAS.  MORTE D'ARTHUR. London: David Nutt in the 
Strand, 1889-91. Edited by H. Oskar Sommer. Limited to 100 copies for 
sale, this copy unserialized and unsigned. Appears to be printer's 
copy. 4 volumes. Three-quarter morocco, gilt. Large 4to (10 x 12 
1/2"). Near fine. 3 volumes in 4, complete.  Volume One contains the 
facsimile of Caxton's edition; Volume Two contains Sommer's notes, 
glossary and bibliography of the Morte d'Arthur; and Volume Three 
contains Andrew Lang's introductory essay as well as Sommer's notes 
on the Arthurian sources. Folding charts present in Volume Three. A 
fine set.<p>In old English with modern English annotations. This 
important edition is a facsimile of the Caxton Edition but adds the 
very scholarly notes of Sommer. This copy has blindstamp on title 
pages, a library discard stamp in one volume and the library number 
stamped on copyright page but no other marks. Obviously it was not 
circulated. Lovely hand-made paper with no foxing.<BR> <A

London: George G. Harrap & Co., Ltd, 1936. Illustrated by Arthur 
Rackham with twelve color plates with tissue guards and several black 
and white illustrations. First limited edition. Limited to 460 copies 
of which 450 are for sale, this is #277. Full vellum boards with a 
swirling design similar to marbling and with gilt pictorial design 
and lettering  stamped at the front board and spine, teg. Housed in a 
custom-made tri-fold pull-case within a half morocco slipcase with 
gilt lettering, designs and marbled boards, probably by Sangorski and 
Sutcliffe. Signed by Arthur Rackham. 4to. [256 pgs] Fine/none/Near 
fine. From the collection of Frank Crowninshield, art editor of 
Century Magazine and personal friend to Arthur Rackham. He 
commissioned half-morocco slipcases, of different colors and styles 
to be custom-made for each of his Rackham books. Un-opened.  Pristine 
copy.  Mild staining to pull-case with minor shelf wear to slip-case.

drawings and pictorial end-papers. First limited edition. Limited to 
775 copies, this is # 623. Vellum with gilt rules and lettering on 
the front board with gilt stamped design and lettering at the spine, 
teg. Housed in a custom-made tri-fold pull-case within a half morocco 
slipcase with gilt lettering, designs and marbled boards, probably by 
Sangorski & Sutcliffe. Signed by Arthur Rackham. 8vo. [223 pgs] Near 
fine/none/Near fine. From the collection of Frank Crowninshield, art 
editor of Century Magazine and personal friend to Arthur Rackham. He 
commissioned half-morocco slipcases, of different colors and styles
