CHURCH DECORATION, A PRACTICAL MANUAL OF APPROPRIATE ORNAMENTATION. Edited
by a Practical Illuminator.

London Frederick Warne & Co.: nd (ca. 1880).

The Victorian era was the Golden Age of church decoration in England. Any
holiday or festival could provide an excuse for festooning the local abbey
with garlands, banners, wreaths, and other brightly colored decorations.
This charming and colorful Victorian instructional book was a guide for
creating and placing these festive displays. The colored plates illustrate
all sorts of colored lettering, borders, devices and banners and are
especially interesting.

Hardcover. 5"x7.5", 84 pages, many line illustrations in the text, plus 4
b/w and 10 (of 11) colored plates, numbered 1-6 unnumbered 8-15, with a
different title for the un-numbered and uncalled-for colored plate in the
plate than is called for in the list of plates; gilt-lettered covers some
cover wear and soil hinges cracked, some soil, etc. A working, defective
copy of this interesting book, offered at a price reflective of its
condition. [03447] $65.00
