BUFF AND BERGER, NO. 9 PROVINCE COURT, BOSTON, MASS. (ASTRONOMICAL
INSTRUMENTS - ENGINEERS' TRANSITS - ENGINEERS' LEVELS).
Boston: Heintzemann Press, 1897. Original stiff wrappers, Octavo, [xiv], 150
pages, Engraved plates, cuts, one fold-out. Very Good.
      Perhaps the last catalogue issued by the partnership of C. Louis
Berger and George L. Buff, founded in 1871 and dissolved in 1898 when both
men formed separate firms with their respective sons. The book is comprised
of two parts: I) full description of the instruments and concise directions
how to care for and adjust them; II) illustrated catalogue and price list of
engineering, surveying, and astronomical instruments manufactured and sold
by the firm. A valuable reference with lovely illustrations and detailed
descriptions. Bound in original printed card covers with cloth-backed spine.
Shallow chipping and fraying to cloth at spine head, mild fading to black
cloth spine. Covers show a bit of cracking starting at hinges but still
holding well. Small contemporary inked numeral/letter code of some kind at
top fore corner of front cover.    $125.00
