full-page copper engravings (very good impressions) with corresponding 
letterpress descriptions. Cont. limp vellum. Some light text browning. Some old text 
worming, mostly at the inner blank margin (pp. 160-194) and also at the top inner 
margin (pp. 1-24), with the loss of a small amount of text in places.

Platter is known to have dissected over 300 bodies in a 50 year career. “
Platter was an anatomist and the earliest supporter of Vesalius north of the Alps 
and professor of medicine at Basel. One of the earliest German anatomists to 
dissect the human body, he published in 1583, a well-known book of anatomy 
illustrated with numerous plates, many of which were copied from Vesalius.” (HEIRS
