Greetings All,

For your consideration:
~
(No. 6903 ) Forbush, Edward Howe. BIRDS OF MASSACHUSETTS AND OTHER NEW
ENGLAND STATES (COMPLETE IN 3 VOLUMES).
(Norwood, MA): (Norwood Press), 1927-1929. Third and First printings, Full
cloth, Quartos, , color plates, b&w photos, cuts, map. Near Fine.
Volume I: "Water Birds, Marsh Birds and Shore Birds;" Volume II: "Land
Birds from Bob-Whites to Grackles;" and Volume III: "Land Birds from
Sparrows to Thrushes." Classic work with a monumental amount of information
on lives of the birds found within Massachusetts borders, their food,
breeding habits, etc., as well as help in their identification. The color
plates are from drawings by Louis Agassiz Fuertes (with Allan Brooks in Vol.
III). Volume III contains John Richard May's biographical sketch of Forbush,
who died before publication of the final volume. The Massachusetts
Department of Agriculture issued the work separately in three uniformly
bound volumes (1925, 1927, and 1929). This set is a mixed edition, with the
Volume I being a third printing and the Volumes II and III being first
printings. All three volumes bound in dark green cloth over boards with gilt
stamped titles to spine and upper boards. Light extremity rubs, gilt on
upper boards remains bright though it is somewhat darkened on spines. Neatly
penned prior owner name at top fore corner and tasteful bookplate on front
pastedown in all three volumes. Hinges not cracked, bindings sound, a few
small, faintly discernable stains to exterior. An excellent set. $250.00

'Jane Austen's books, too, are absent from this library. Just that one
omission alone would make a fairly good library out of a library that hadn't
a book in it.' - Mark Twain
