We can offer:
ROEBUCK, JOHN ARTHUR (1801-1879) ET AL. [PAMPHLETS FOR THE PEOPLE.]
London: C. & W. Reynell, n.d., [ca.1835]. 26 numbers of this scarce,
radical series.
Separately disbound, most 16 pages, caption-titles for the most
part. (Articles by Roebuck and fellow M.P.'s on such subjects as
"Democracy in America," "Of What Use is the House of Lords?" "The Evils of
a House of Lords," "Aristocracy," "Toryphobia,"
"Persecution of the Unstamped Press," &c, &c. Many numbers contain more
than one article. Roebuck was a radical independent M.P., a follower of
Bentham and a friend of John Stuart Mill. He had ties to Canada having
been educated there, and later representing Canada before the House of
Lords. Always unpredictable, he was a strong supporter of the Confederacy
during the Civil War in the U.S. The lot, $450.00
