ROEBUCK, JOHN ARTHUR (1801-1879) ET AL.  [PAMPHLETS FOR THE PEOPLE.]
London: C. & W. Reynell, n.d., [ca.1835].  26 numbers of this scarce, 
radical series.
Separately disbound, most 16 pages, caption-titles for the most 
part.  (Articles by Roebuck and fellow M.P.'s on such subjects as 
"Democracy in America,"  "Of What Use is the House of Lords?" "The Evils of 
a House of Lords," "Aristocracy," "Toryphobia,"
"Persecution of the Unstamped Press," &c, &c.  Many numbers contain more 
than one article.  Roebuck was a radical independent M.P.,  a follower of 
Bentham and a friend of John Stuart Mill.  He had ties to Canada having 
been educated there, and later representing Canada before the House of 
Lords.  Always unpredictable, he was a strong supporter of the Confederacy 
during the Civil War in the U.S.   The lot, $450.00
