      Fascinating history of this under-appreciated branch of service in
World War II. The British experience with German long delay bombs in the air
assault on England made the Americans realize the need for bomb and mine
disposal units. Chapters herein include the German Long Delay Bomb,
Chronology of the Mine Disposal School, Mine Disposal Graduates in England,
Development of the Remotely Operated Wrench, Recovering German "C" Mines,
etc. Well illustrated. Bound in cream colored printed covers. A few faint

OF WORLD WAR TWO.
(S.l.): (Robert W. Eigell), (1994). First printing, Wrappers, Quarto, iv,
213 pages, black & white photographs, drawings. Near Fine.
      Self-published memoir of one of America's foremost experts in mine
warfare and explosive ordnance disposal. Commander Eigell was in charge of
the clean up of live Japanese ordnance dropped on Pearl Harbor in December,
1941. As part of this task, he invented the first remotely operated bomb
fuse extractor wrench and assisted in disarming and dismantling the first
Japanese bomb recovered by American forces. His unique career spanned
another 40 years and his memoir includes many fascinating incidents and
anecdotes. Bound in glossy blue covers with black lettering to front cover.
Laid in is 4 page typed obituary for Eigell.    $50.00

Octavo, vi, 235 pages, black & white photographs, diagrams. Very Good.
      Scarce World War II booklet detailing the specifications, use, and
mechanical operation of numerous U. S. Navy projectiles, primers, tracers,
fuzes, etc. Included herein are 3" through 16" armor piercing and regular
projectiles, point detonating fuzes, nose time fuzes, base detonating fuzes,
percussion primers, tracer rounds, and more. Well illustrated. Errata sheet
is bound in at front. Issued to graduates of the U. S. Navy Bomb Disposal
School. The booklet is bound in a Remington Rand thong binder of dark blue
textured cloth over boards with darkened lettering to spine and upper board.
Light extremity rubs to binder, mild age toning to textblock, a few short
fore edge tears to errata sheet. Also laid in is a small folded card titled
"Chemical Warfare Pocket Reference Card," dated January 1944 and issued by
Security Office IIND. This little card covers the use and care of gas masks,
color-coded identification chart for various chemical warfare agents, the
purpose and effects of each, methods of protection from and treatment for
effects of each, etc.    $175.00

Very Good.
      Two scarce World War II booklets containing detailed specifications
and descriptions of function and operation of scores of British explosive
devices, including incendiary bombs, fragmentation bombs, aircraft depth
charges, cluster projectiles, medium and high capacity bombs, armor piercing
bombs, photoflash bombs, and all manner of land mines. Also includes
detailed information on the firing devices used therein. Well illustrated.
These booklets were used for instruction by the U.S. Navy Bomb Disposal
School in Washington, D.C., and the information was gathered from
contemporary official British publications and by U.S. Naval Bomb Disposal
personnel then stationed in the United Kingdom. Both booklets bound together
in a Remington Rand thong binder with dark blue cloth over boards and
darkened lettering to spine and upper board. Light age toning inside, small
dog-ears to several page corners.    $250.00
