Greetings All,

For your consideration:
~
(No. 7563 ) Winslow, Walter G.. GHOST OF THE JAVA COAST (SAGA OF THE U. S.
S. HOUSTON).
Satellite Beach, FL: Coral Reef Publications, Inc., (1974). First printing,
Full cloth, Octavo, xvi, 184 pages, black & white photographs. Very Good in
a Worn Dust Jacket, Jacket in Mylar protector.
Heroic exploits of the heavy cruiser and flagship of the U.S. Asiatic
Fleet, USS Houston, in three major naval battles against superior Japanese
forces early in World War II. The Japanese prematurely claimed to have sunk
the Houston on four separate occasions in those anxious early weeks of the
war--hence her nickname and the title of this book. She was finally lost in
the Battle of the Sunda Coast after a gallant fight. Commander Winslow was
one of the few officers who survived, but spent the next three and a half
years in Japanese POW camps. Bound in dark blue cloth over boards with
yellow stamped spine lettering, endpaper maps. Book is clean and tight with
a bit of foxing to textblock edges and inner margins of endpapers, spine
lettering dulled. Jacket has all present but for a small 1/4" chip at bottom
edge of rear panel, but has a few lengthy, tape-repaired tears to front
panel. Jacket spine is browned. $50.00

'Jane Austen's books, too, are absent from this library. Just that one
omission alone would make a fairly good library out of a library that hadn't
a book in it.' - Mark Twain
