BENET, Stephen Vincent. YOUNG ADVENTURE. A BOOK OF POEMS. New
Haven: Yale University Press 1918. First Edition. Cloth and decorated
boards with paper spine label. Benet's second book, published in
September 1918. This copy bears an April 1918 pre-publication
INSCRIPTION by Benet that takes up nearly the entire front endpaper:
"To Tim Walker/from (supposedly)/Stephen Vincent Benet/this
complete/and definite/'Portrait of a Baby.'" Likely an allusion to
the fact that this book was published shortly after Benet's twentieth
birthday while he was still a student at Yale. The longest, and first,
poem of the book won an award at Yale judged by Robert Frost and two
others. Paper is browned but not brittle. Minor wear to spine tips
and slightly more to corners. Lacking the scarce dustwrapper. Overall
a Very Good copy, quite scarce when signed. $350.00
