SERIES).
York, PA: George Shumway Publisher, (1977). First printing, Full cloth,
Folio, 310 pages, Black & White photographs, illustrations. Very good in a
very good dust jacket, Jacket in Mylar protector.
      Important and thorough reference to the sometimes overlooked gunsmiths
and other arms makers who worked in Maryland in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Hartzler conducted extensive research in old records, census reports,
newspapers, city directories, tax records, the state Archives, Committee of
Safety records, apprentice indentures, and other sources to compile the
names and biographical information of some 300 Maryland arms makers here.
There are also good illustrations of over 80 representative arms, including
longrifles, flintlock pistols, swords and accoutrements. Facsimiles of
several relevant arms making documents also reproduced herein. INSCRIBED and
SIGNED by Hartzler on front free endpaper. Bound in tan cloth over boards
with gilt-stamped spine. Some minor extremity bumps at spine ends. Prior
owner has neatly penned three page numbers on front free endpaper below
author's inscription. Jacket has minor edgewear and is missing the lower
fore corner of front panel to a depth of about 1".    $150.00
