BELAFONTE, Harry. AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED. A fine, early letter
from Belafonte to his agent, Jay Kennedy, of @75 words on Fairmont
Hotel, San Francisco, stationery. In full: "Well we did it again: All
the reviews have finally come in and they are all good. We also broke
Lena's record who broke Nat King Cole's record only last week.
Enclosed is first check. I didn't know we also had a fifty percent
deal. You never cease to amaze me. I'll try to break the record again
this week. I'm also in the midst of 'Songs Lincoln Loved.' All my
love to Janet, Susie and you." SIGNED "Your Harry." Belafonte, one of
the world's most popular entertainers starring not only in music but
in the theater and film as well, was also the first, and for some
time the only, black producer in television and the first African
American to receive an Emmy award. Though not dated by Belafonte,
Kennedy has penciled a 1955 date at the top, right about the time the
singer was becoming a popular success and beginning to experiment
with calypso music, a craze which would soon sweep the nation much as
the "twist" did some years later. Some wrinkling but still Very Good
or better. $350.00
