Genlis, Stephanie Felicite Ducrest de Saint Aubin, comtesse de.
THEATRE OF EDUCATION. [Four Volumes]. Dublin: Printed by D.
Graisberry, for Messrs. Whitestone, Walker, Moncrieffe, Beatty,
Byrne, Burton, and Cash, 1783. 286 pp.; 286 pp.; 288 pp.; 288 pp.
16mo. Full calf with red and green spine labels. Second edition.

Genlis (1746-1839) was a prolific writer and educator. After 1770 she
was a lady-in-waiting to the duchesse de Chartres to whose children
she became governess, writing and producing plays for their benefit.
These were first published in 1779 and translated in 1781 and
reprinted again in Dublin in 1783.

Signed by Phebe Gelston, daughter-in-law of William Floyd, signer of
the Declaration of Independence, and with the bookplate of John G.
[Gelston] Floyd (1806-1881), member of New York state assembly, New
York state senate, and U.S. House of Representatives.

Front board of volume I nearly detached, split to spine on one
volume, some splits to leather and hinges on others, though bindings
and boards still tight, extremities rubbed with some wear, some minor
spotting; leaves occasionally toned but clean; free front endpaper of
volume one torn with loss of about half the leaf; overall still a
good or better set. [25792] $200
