BARRIE, J. M. (Barrie, James Matthew, Sir). AUTOGRAPHED LETTER
SIGNED (ALS) to actess Mary Jerrold who had asked for a child of hers to
appear in PETER PAN. London: 14 Sept. 1927. An excellent one-page
AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED to noted stage and film actress Mary Jerrold.
In full: "Kindly excuse this delay in answering your letter as I have
not been well. It would be nice to me to have a child of yours in
"Peter Pan" though I don't know anything about vacancies, and as Mr.
Vaughan at the St. James Theatre has all the arrangements for small
parts in his hands would you mind writing to him who I am sure he
will do what he can. I wish I could have seen you in the little play.
With kindest regards. Yours sincerely, J. M. Barrie." In addition to
PETER PAN, Barrie wrote two more fantasy plays: DEAR BRUTUS (1917)
about a group of people who enter a magic wood where they are
transformed into the people they might have become had they made
different choices and MARY ROSE (1920) a story of a mother who is
searching for her lost child and who eventually becomes a ghost. Mary
Jerrold played an important role in the original stage production of
the latter. Normal crease from folding. About Fine with envelope.
