Nazi regime, placing it in the context of the historic relations of churches
to the state in Germany. Helmreich credits the churches as being the only
institutions which offered any real resistance to Hitler's policies, but
also notes the many divisions and conflicts within the churches that
confused or delayed action. Discusses the role of the Catholic church as
well as that of the many smaller denominations and sects. Extensive
bibliography. See MADDEN, p. 202. Bound in black cloth over boards with
gilt-stamped spine lettering. No significant wear to book, no prior
ownership marks. Jacket has a few minor edge rubs, three closed edge tears
