We offer for Sale:

Hamilton, James Alexander. [Jas. A. Hamilton], H., I. A. THE PUBLIC
DEBT AND THE PUBLIC CREDIT OF THE UNITED STATES. New York: Wynkoop,
Hallenbeck and Thomas, 1864. 24 pp. Pamphlet. Paper wrappers. First
edition. Sabin 66512. Abraham Lincoln Papers Reel 16.

Though usually attributed to I.A.H. whose initials appear at the end
of the article, the author is James Alexander Hamilton (1788-1878),
third son of Alexander Hamilton who published a number of pamphlets
of which two were in defense of his father, the current item and the
later 'Martin Van Buren's Calumnies Repudiated: Hamilton's Conduct as
Secretary of the Treasury Vindicated (1870).' A handwritten note to
front wrapper of this copy states: "by Jas. A. Hamiton." Scarce.

Library stamps to wrappers, author's name in ink on wrapper, faint
rubbing, wrappers intact, binding good, leaves clean. A nice copy of
this uncommon document. [25892] $100
