Carthage and the Carthaginians, by Smith, Bosworth R., MA., Published by 
Longmans, Green and Company, London 1879, Three-quarter leather, Second 
Edition:  A scholarly study of Carthage and two of her greatest citizens; 
Hamilcar Barca and Hannibal. The two opening chapters provide a general 
sketch of the Carthaginian influence and civilization; continuing with the 
difference between Carthage and Rome and covering the First and Second Punic 
Wars. From the 8th century till the 3rd century BCE, Carthage was the 
dominating power of the western half of the Mediterranean. Carthage had been 
founded in the 9th century by Phoenician traders of Tyre. Carthage had two 
first class harbors, and therefore an advantage with the most efficient
