pebbled red morocco over marbled paper-covered boards, raised bands 
with gilt rules, gilt titles, decorations, all edges gilt, marbled

"Melanges d'archeologie," containing four quarto volumes of 
illustrated dissertations on gold and silver church-plate, enameled 
ware, carved ivories, tapestries, bas-reliefs, and paintings 
belonging to the Carlovingian and Romanesque periods (ninth to 
twelfth century) is a most valuable work and quite characteristic of 
these two authors. It was followed almost two decades later by four 
more volumes: "Nouveaux melanges d'archeologie, d'histoire, et de 
litterature sur le moyen-age" in the first volume of which is to be 
found a memoir of Father Martin by his collaborator (see our item 
[26377]).

A very good or better set, spines lightly rubbed, shelfwear to the 
bottom edge and extremities, gilt bright, boards rubbed, scattered 
foxing, bindings tight, plates bright.  [26392] $1000.
