From one of the finest collections of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt material
offered in many years, part of our catalogue of SIGNED PRESIDENTIAL material
posted on our website: http://www.erols.com/agvent. Also included are important
signed and association copies of LBJ, Harry Truman and Theodore Roosevelt.

ROOSEVELT, Eleanor. MY DAYS. New York: Dodge Publishing Company
(1938). First Edition. "A first-hand chronicle of every day in the
life of the First Lady." Illustrated with a photographic
frontispiece. INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the front
endpaper: "Inscribed for/Toi Bachelder/with good wishes/Eleanor
Roosevelt." Toinette Bachelder contracted polio as a child, leaving
her with one leg paralyzed. On a trip to Warm Springs, Georgia, as a
teenager, she struck up a friendship with the future President, and
in 1933, she went to Washington to work for him at the White House
where she stayed for 33 years retiring during the Johnson
administration. She was at Warm Springs with Roosevelt when he died
there in April 1945 and rode on the special train that carried his
body back to Washington. As with all of the women who worked for FDR,
she was always under some suspicion by Eleanor, perhaps accounting
for the rather restrained inscription in this book to someone who
worked so closely with her husband. One of Roosevelt's more difficult
books to find signed, let alone with any association. Donated to a
public library by Toi and her mother Mable, a Correspondence Reviewer
at the White House from 1936 until 1951, this copy bears a
presentation bookplate on the front pastedown and small ink stamps on
the endpapers and title page as well as a card pocket and some
writing on the rear pastedown and small white numbers on the spine.
The dustwrapper is very nice with some soiling to the white
background on the rear panel. Very Good in a supplied Near Fine
dustwrapper. $2750.00
