1.  ARMSTRONG, MOSES. K.  CENTENNIAL ADDRESS ON DAKOTA TERRITORY, 
GIVING ITS HISTORY, GROWTH, POPULATION, AND RESOURCES. Philadelphia: 
J. B. Lippincott & Co., 1876. Pamphlet. Wraps. 8vo. [17 pgs] Very 
good. Armstrong was a delegate in Congress for the Dakota Territory. 
This address was delivered at the U.S. Centennial Exhibition in 
Philadelphia on September 28, 1876.  At the time of the address, the 
Dakota Territory encompassed an area of about 150,000 square miles 
and a population of about 50,000 whites and 25,000 Indians. This work 
discusses: the first navigators of the Missouri River, Lewis and 
Clark; early trade with the Indians; the first permanent settlements; 
the petition to organize Dakota; the first boundaries of Dakota; the 
Indian War of 1862-65;  the first railroad; and the territory in the 
current year (1876). Armstrong was the author of The History and 
Resources of Dakota, Montana and Idaho. 1866.

8vo. [61 pgs] Very good. A statement of the condition of these Indian 
tribes during a visit by the author. Apparently progress made by the 
Indians up to 1887 had faltered. The U.S. government had taken land 
previously developed by and for the Indians, pushing the Indians back 
onto the prairie. The author discusses details of the conditions of 
the Indians and the U.S. government's role in their 
backslide.Residue of paper label on front panel, blind stamp to 
title page, small red ink stamped number to first page.  $75.00
