Title within an ornamental type border and with a large engraved vignette. Title
& text printed throughout in red & black. Printed music in a number of
sections. Illustrated with 3 full-page copper engravings by Carlo Nolli, a
Neapolitan engraver. Contemporary embroidered binding in full blue/green velvet with
gold & silver thread ornamental designs along each border and with the large
embroidered arms of a Bishop in the center of both covers. The spine is ornately
sewn as well. There are 4 ornamental flowers sewn on each cover with actual
strips of gold foil. Four brass “legs” (modern) on each cover. Marbled
endpapers. A.e.g. Text with 5 fore-edge tabs. An exceptional embroidered binding of
very high quality. $4,500.00 (trade discount allowed)
The first printing of a very rare Neapolitan MISSALE. No copy is recorded by
OCLC, only a 1775 reprint. Embroidered bindings in folio format are quite
uncommon, requiring a great amount of time (and expense) to produce.
