through Peter Coats favorite English gardens, which tend toward the more
informal, although many of them are quite grand...  Hardcover.  9"x11.5",

Putnam's Sons: 1963.  "Peter Coats, well-known garden designer and

missing a rare treat.A book ostensibly concerning those basic choices we
make when we garden and their ultimate effects, "Groundwork is pragmatic
as well as poetical, one of those rare books that can inspire you to
reassess your approach to gardening...".  Hardcover. 6"x8.5", 162 pages,
dj; a fine copy.


Thorpe, Patricia & Eve Sonneman.  AMERICA'S COTTAGE GARDENS.  New York;
Random House: 1990.  An interesting pictorial and textual survey through
American neighborhood "cottage" gardens.  Not English cottage gardens by a
long shot...  Hardcover.  10"x10", 191 pages, color and b/w illustrations,
