*[BRITISH PARLIAMENT - HOUSE OF COMMONS]. /VOTES OF THE HOUSE OF
COMMONS, IN THE FIFTH PARLIAMENT OF GREAT BRITAIN, APPOINTED TO MEET AT
WESTMINSTER [1714 - 1717]/.* Bound in contemporary full sheep with
morocco spine label. Jacob Tonson et al, printers, London. 1714 to 1717.
1st edition. Tall 4to, hinges & joints cracked, but binding intact. Old
stain to first half of contents, intruding inward from margin; else good
condition.

This is a bound record of the reports of the votes which took place in
all three sessions of the fifth Parliament, for the three year period
commencing March 21, 1714, and concluding with the vote held on December
23, 1717. The first session (March 21, 1714, to July 26, 1716) contains
279 individual reports (560 pages), each of which details the business
transacted, and voted upon, in the House of Commons for the respective
period. The second session (Feb. 20, 1716 [sic] to July 15, 1717)
contains 106 individual reports (approx. 226 pages), and the third
session (Jan. 10,1717, to Dec. 23, 1717) contains 80 individual reports
(approx. 170 pages). Most of the reports are of uniform size (approx. 29
x 16 cms.) and were printed by Jacob Tonson, Timothy Goodwin, Bernard
Lintott, and William Taylor (all of London). A few reports are smaller,
although the same printers were used. The condition of each report
varies: some are in excellent condition, untroubled by foxing or
soiling. Other reports are quite foxed. Generally, reports in the second
half of the book are in better condition than in the first half.
However, all reports are intact and quite legible. Also included are the
various copies of "The Humble Address of the House of Commons to the
King", which recite Parliament's grievances and reproaches to the King
(George I) for his inaction, or errors of judgment (couched in the most
respectful of terms). This is a unique and fascinating record of
momentous events in British history (such as the Jacobite Rebellion).
