Greetings Booklovers,
We are pleased to offer:
~
(No. 8886 ) Emerson, George B[arrell]. (1797-1881). A REPORT ON THE TREES
AND SHRUBS GROWING NATURALLY IN THE FORESTS OF MASSACHUSETTS (COMPLETE IN 2
VOLUMES).
Boston: Little, Brown, and Company, 1875. Second Edition, Full cloth,
Octavos, xxiv, 318 and xii, [319]-624 pages, Black & white and color plates.
Very Good.
Contains numerous illustrations and plates, many in color. This set
came from the 1924 auction of the library of Samuel H. Putnam (lot #177), as
evidenced by a few loose leaves of the Anderson Galleries catalogue laid. in
Bound in burgundy cloth over boards with blind-stamped borders and rules on
both boards, dark brown endpapers, spines were lettered in gilt but this is
nearly gone. Minor extremity wear. Both spines are very faded and have what
appears to be silverfish damage to surface of the cloth. Bindings are
otherwise straight and sound with all four hinges remaining strong and
uncracked. Some minor scattered foxing inside. $175.00
