Greetings Booklovers,

We are pleased to offer:
~
(No. 1783 ) [Continental Army, Connecticut] Reuben Sharp. REVOLUTIONARY WAR
PAY VOUCHER.
Hartford: , 1782. Fine.
Single pre-printed sheet with specifics filled in by hand, measuring
approximately 7" x 6.5". Reads as follows (handwritten words in all caps):
"Hartford, MARCH 13TH 1783 / Received, of Pay-Table-Committee, their Order
on the Treasurer of this State, to secure the Payment of SEVENTEEN POUNDS
AND FIVE SHILLINGS, being the balance due to REUBEN SHARP on the first Day
of January 1782, as stated by the Committees of the State and of the Army.
IN BEHALF OF REUBEN SHARP / £ 17..18 / BENJAMIN WISE." This is a typical
example of a Continental Army soldier signing his pay over to someone else
in exchange for goods or services. Reverse side shows where this voucher
was recorded in the official record (Vol. 4 Fol. 214). Part of the paper's
watermark is visible. Very clean and bright. $150.00

(No. 8856 ) [Maryland] Eddis, William and John Clapham (Signers). ONE
DOLLAR MARYLAND COLONIAL CURRENCY, 1774, INDENTED BILL PRINTED BY ANNE
CATHERINE GREEN AND FREDERICK GREEN, ENGRAVED BY THOMAS SPARROW.
Annapolis: , 1774. Very good.
This is an original Colonial Maryland paper dollar from the issue of
April 10, 1774. The first money in the world to use "dollar" as a unit of
value had been issued by Maryland in 1767. The signers on this note are John
Clapham and William Eddis, the latter being he who published "Letters From
America" in England after the Revolutionary War. This bill is #1296 of the
$1 denomination and was printed by Anne Catherine Green and her son,
Frederick Green in Annapolis. The engraving was done by Thomas Sparrow. The
anti-counterfeit nature print on the back is from the process invented by
Benjamin Franklin, and is unchanged from the issue 1767. The inverted
initials of Mrs. Green's late husband, Jonas Green, appear across one of the
leaf prints. The bill measures approximately 62 x 113mm and exhibits normal
circulation wear. $125.00
