(No. 8887 ) Tydings, Millard E[velyn]. (1890-1961). THE MACHINE GUNNERS OF
THE BLUE AND GRAY DIVISION (TWENTY-NINTH) [29TH].
[Aberdeen, MD]: [Harford Printing and Publishing Company], [1920]. First
printing, Full cloth, Octavo, 140 pages, black & white photographs, tables.
Good.
Warmly INSCRIBED and SIGNED by author on front free endpaper. Tydings
had enlisted as a private in 1917, was promoted to Lt. Colonel and division
machine gun officer in 1918. He later served several terms as a U.S. Senator
from Maryland. This is his account of the role his unit played in the
romance, comedy, and tragedy of World War I service in France as part of the
American Expeditionary Force. Includes company rosters. Bound in grey cloth
over boards with upper board lettered in gilt, unit insignia in dark blue.
Some mild soiling to exterior with a few extremity rubs. Top edge of upper
board shows a few shallow areas of silverfishing to sizing layer of cloth.
Prior owner bookplate on front pastedown, some minor rippling to bottom edge
of textblock. $125.00
