Greetings Booklovers,
We are pleased to offer:
~
(No. 3339 ) [Cassatt, Alexander J. and the Executive Committee].
INTERCONTINENTAL RAILWAY COMMISSION: PRELIMINARY REPORT OF THE EXECUTIVE
COMMITTEE.
Washington: Government Printing Office, 1893. First printing, Full cloth,
Octavo, 45 pages + maps, Fold-out colored maps. Fine.
Early report on the progress of surveys of Central and South America
then being directed by this committee with the ambitious aim of constructing
a railroad line from the U.S. clear to the southern tip of South America.
Contains five folding colored maps on a scale of about 75 miles to the inch
showing existing railways, surveyed routes and projected routes for the IRC
line. Alas, the railway was never built. A contemporary newspaper clipping
relating to the project is laid in. Alexander Cassatt was the brother of the
painter Mary Cassatt, and also president of the Pennsylvania Railroad. This
copy belonged to the committee secretary, Capt. Edgar Zell Steever, with his
name stamped in gilt on upper board. Bound in dark maroon cloth over boards
with gilt stamped upper board lettering. Some tiny rubs. Bright copy with
sound binding. No hinge cracks or prior ownership marks. $75.00
