From our recent Catalogue containing 105 Limited Editions Club titles. In
addition to what is listed among our new arrivals, we have about 300 other LECs
cataogued on our website as well as half that number yet to be catalogued:
http://www.erols.com/agvent (to see them all, type in Limited Editions Club
under the Any Word category on our search engine). We will also be cataloguing
later this year a fine collection of mountain climbing titles.
MELVILLE, Herman. MOBY DICK. [Brattleboro, VT]: Limited Editions
Club 1943. Two quarto volumes (7-1/2" x 10") bound in full dark
sheepskin with gilt lettering on the spines. Copy #999 of 1500 with
color and black-and-white plates after paintings by Boardman Robinson
and SIGNED by the artist on the colophon page. One of the most
difficult books of the press to obtain in decent condition because of
the tendency of the leather to dry. When copies are seen, usually the
binding is so dry it is crumbling. These volumes are in beautiful
condition, the leather still supple with solid coloring. There is
just a bit of sunning to the very top of the spine of the second
volume and none of the rubbing or fading usually encountered. The
glassine is still present though with some chipping. The slipcase is
complete and quite nice. All in all an excellent copy! Very Good to
Near Fine in Near Fine slipcase and uncommon thus. $900.00
