First U.K. Edition. Originally published in 1944 by William Morrow as a 
special Armed Services edition, this edition was revised and updated by 
Miss McCloy.
Inscribed presentation copy. "For Quita Vitzthum, with best wishes from 
the author, Helen McCloy. May 23, 1982."
Helen McCloy was the first woman president of the Mystery Writers of 
America, won an Edgar for her criticism and was married to the writer 
Brett Halliday (David Dresser). She was a master of the psychological 
mystery.    Fine in fine dust jacket.
