CONSOLATIONS   IN  TRAVEL,  OR  THE   LAST  DAYS  OF  A   PHILOSOPHER.
Philadelphia:  John  Grigg  1830. The scarce First  American  Edition,
published  the  same year as the English edition. Duodecimo  (3-1/2" x
6")  bound  in  the  original cloth-backed  printed  boards  with  the
original  paper spine label, 252 pages. With a sketch of the  author's
life  and  notes  by  Jacob Green, M.D.,  Professor  of  Chemistry  in
Jefferson  Medical  College,  not found in the  English  edition.  The
brilliant  chemist's  travels and last days in his words. The note  by
Green  to  this American edition states that "the facts  contained  in
the  following Life, were derived from a number of authentic  memoirs.
Most  of  the Notes have been added, with the view of correcting  some
theological  errors  which,  had  the distinguished  author  lived  to
revise  his  work,  it is beleived he would have  modified  or  erased
himself."   Occasional  stain;  moderate   browning.  Front   endpaper
lacking. Near Fine copy in original binding.                   $350.00
