The Constitutions of the Society of Jesus. From its place in Sommervogel’s
chronological listing, this edition is the first printing of the authoritative
final recension of the Latin text. The text of the Constitutiones is the
official Latin version of Ignacio Loyola’s last Spanish recension which was first
published in 1559. The unsigned beautifully etched title-page is described in A.
F. Johnson’s Catalog of Italian Engraved Title-pages in the Sixteenth
Century, p. 19, no. 20; DeBacker-Sommervogel V, 77.
