From one of the finest collections of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt material
offered in many years, part of our catalogue of SIGNED PRESIDENTIAL material
posted on our website: http://www.erols.com/agvent. Also included are important
signed and association copies of LBJ, Harry Truman and Theodore Roosevelt.

ROOSEVELT, Franklin Delano. AUTOGRAPHED LETTER SIGNED (ALS) to his
son James and his wife. Horseneck Beach [MA]: August 10. A two-page
AUTOGRAPH LETTER on both sides of Roosevelt's Fidelity and Deposit
Company of Maryland's stationery, completely in FDR's hand, to his
son James Roosevelt and his wife "Bunny" SIGNED as "Father." At the
top, FDR has written "Horseneck Beach," a place in Massachusetts on
Buzzard's Bay where he spent part of the summer in 1925 with Louis
Howe. Roosevelt underwent treatments for his paralysis with a
neurologist nearby who was experimenting with rehabilitation of polio-
wasted muscles by a combination of swimming and exercise. Roosevelt
was treated with some success and returned the following year with
great hopes for a recovery that was never realized. He would purchase
Warm Springs in 1926. In this letter, FDR is attempting to make
rather complex travel plans for his son and daughter-in-law. In part:
"Mother has been here three days & we have had a lovely time.-- She
goes on to N.Y. tonight & then up to Geneva to get here on the 15. It
seems a long time not to see you till Sept. 11 -- Lots of love take
care of yourself & don't bring back too many horses--no more stable
room till Bobby dies! Your devoted Father." After attending but not
graduating from Harvard, James Roosevelt became an insurance
executive, a position he left in 1937 to become secretary to his
father in the White House. He was decorated for his service as a
Marine in World War II. Autograph letters completely in Franklin
Roosevelt's hand are quite scarce; those to family members
exceptionally so. Normal creases from folding. About Fine $4000.00
