boards. Maroon stained top edge.
First Edition. First Printing. Contains error on line 17 of page 209 
with "seep" for "sleep." Introduces Nick & Nora Charles in the mystery 
of the Wynant family.
Fair. Former private lending library copy. Front panel of original 
jacket with Hammett photo pasted to front board & front flap pasted to 
front pastedown. Peerless Library stamp on both front & rear pastedowns 
& bottom of page 23. Rear panel mottled. HInges weak with cracks at both 
first front & second rear blanks. Wear to corners & spine ends. Abrasion 
to front panel with no effect on titles or illustration. An affordable 
filler of the uncommon first edition.  $80.00
