Greetings Booklovers,

We are pleased to offer:
~
(No. 9155 ) Fleischer, Nat (1887-1972). JACK DEMPSEY, THE IDOL OF FISTIANA:
AN INTIMATE NARRATIVE WITH NUMEROUS ILLUSTRATIONS (THE RING ATHLETIC
LIBRARY - BOOK NO. 12).
(New York): [Ring Pub. Co.], (1936). Revised edition, Hardcover, Octavo, x,
157 pages, black & white photographic plates. Good in a worn dust jacket,
Jacket in Mylar protector.
Definitive early biography of Dempsey illustrated with many vintage
photographs of the ring. Much on Dempsey's fights with Gene Tunney. In the
chapter on Dempsey's development the Manassa Mauler recounts how he learned
the value of body punching from Negro boxer John Lester Johnson in 1916. The
author was the editor and publisher of The Ring magazine. Bound in orange
paper over boards with illustration in black on upper board. Spine ends are
chipped and bumped, corner tips have shallow bumps and are rubbed, there is
a prior owner inscription and bookplate on front free endpaper. The dust
jacket has edge chips and tears, lacks large pieces at the head and heel of
spine, and has some mild soil. Still, the jacket is present, which is very
uncommon. $50.00
